Brookman Area Trunk Sewer Extension: Connecting South Sherwood to Sewer Infrastructure
In response to annexation within the Brookman Addition Concept Area in south Sherwood, a new sanitary sewer infrastructure extension was required to serve the Sherwood West and South Urban Reserve areas, including the future Sherwood High School site. This project provides essential sewer services to Sherwood’s expanding community and future developments.
Problem
Gaps in Sewer Service Coverage for Growing Areas
Prior to the Brookman Area Trunk sewer expansion, Sherwood High School, the Sherwood West Planning area, the Brookman Concept Area, and the Urban Reserve Areas south of Brookman Road lacked access to a sewer line.
Solution
Connecting Growth Areas with New Infrastructure
Our team completed the design for a 9,925 linear foot, 12- to 21-inch-diameter sanitary sewer main extension along the banks of Cedar Creek to serve the future developed upstream basin. Early in the project, our engineers supported Clean Water Services and the City of Sherwood through an alternatives analysis that included basin delineations, land use zoning projections, peak flow calculations, preliminary pipe sizing, and evaluation of multiple trunk main alignment options.
Following approval of the preferred alternative, we advanced preliminary design efforts, including constructability reviews, coordinating geotechnical and archaeological investigations, providing support for natural resource assessments, and refining the trunk main. The final alignment was optimized to minimize impacts to adjacent properties, reduce installation depth, and maximize long-term system flexibility to support future upstream extensions and development.
Result
Reliable Sewer Infrastructure Supporting Long-Term Urban Growth
The completed Brookman Trunk Main extension provides sanitary sewer capacity to support new development within south and west Sherwood, including the Sherwood High School site and surrounding Urban Reserve areas. The system establishes a foundational backbone for future growth while improving service reliability and regional wastewater conveyance.
