Building the foundation for your future success.
AKS internships give college students a chance to step into a professional environment and grow through meaningful summer work. Rather than observing from the sidelines, interns contribute to real projects, develop practical skills, and learn how cross-team collaboration drives strong outcomes. The experience is designed to help students build confidence, explore areas of interest, and leave with a clearer sense of where they want to take their careers.
When is my application due?
Applications are due no later than February 28, 2027. We encourage students to apply early rather than waiting until the deadline.
Am I eligible?
Our program is open to incoming college juniors and seniors, as well as select incoming sophomores. Students must be declared in a relevant field of study.
Is this a paid internship?
Yes! Interns are paid hourly, with time-and-a-half pay for any overtime work.
Obtain a full picture understanding of how accounting works in a services-based firm and how firms such as AKS manage standard accounting processes to support the company’s success. You will assist with everyday accounting tasks, as well as support new process implementation.
Step onto real job sites and gain valuable experience in construction management by inspecting installed work against design, assisting with reports, and helping process payment requests. Develop an understanding of construction, where the data comes from, and how a project is built in the field.
Immerse yourself in designing electrical and lighting systems, selecting electrical equipment, and more. Establish an understanding of how electrical engineering design and operations translate into real, power-dependent buildings and developments.
Be placed onto either an engineering design, surveying, or construction inspection team to learn not only design but also how projects come to life in the field.
Engineering Design: Develop an understanding of the entire design journey, from assessing existing conditions to developing preliminary and final designs, culminating in the final construction project closeout.
Field Surveying: Learn how to collect the data used to create base maps, establish property boundaries, and perform construction staking.
Construction Inspection: Understand the role of engineers in the construction process by checking the placement of construction stakes, helping to process construction payment requests, performing daily inspections, and preparing inspection reports.
Gain exposure to all of the factors that impact the land development process, including legalities, politics, policies, and finances. Learn what information goes into the development process, how to research effectively, and how it all connects to design.
See how services-based firms such as AKS land work across both private and public sectors. Assist in social media/website management, public relations, tradeshows, client events, and business development.
Participate in hands-on experience across the full scope of work, including HVAC design, plumbing and piping system design, and energy code review. Gain a strong understanding of how performance, efficiency, and technology work together in mechanical engineering.
Explore traffic impact studies, multimodal planning solutions, and AutoCAD design, all while learning how client needs and jurisdictional requirements influence design. Establish an understanding of the intersection of safety, efficiency, and technology in the context of traffic engineering.
Gain hands-on knowledge of wetland delineation, assist with wetland and riparian mitigation monitoring, and coordinate with in-house staff to avoid/minimize negative effects to protected resources. Develop a well-rounded view of land development and how wetland science fits into the process.
