This move brings together two firms with deep roots in the Pacific Northwest, creating new opportunities to better serve clients, support employees, and strengthen communities throughout the Columbia River Gorge and beyond. By joining forces, AKS expands its presence and capacity in the Gorge region, while Klein clients gain access to AKS’ suite of in-house services. With complementary expertise, deep regional roots, and a shared commitment to putting people first, the partnership strengthens both organizations while creating lasting value across the region.

The Local Expertise Behind Klein & Associates

Founded in 1983 by Anthony Klein, KA has served the Columbia Gorge for more than four decades. Based in Hood River, Oregon, the firm has built a reputation for delivering high-quality surveying, civil engineering, construction support, and materials testing services across Oregon and Washington. Recent projects include providing surveying and engineering support for the Hood River City Urban Heights renewal, surveying for the City of Hood River sewer replacement, and Williams pipeline gas line work throughout Oregon and Washington.

Today, Klein is led by Jim Klein and Leo Sandoval, both of whom bring more than 30 years of surveying experience to the organization, along with Elizabeth Betts, with 27 years of experience in civil engineering. Many of the firm’s employees grew up in the Hood River Valley, giving the team a unique understanding of the region’s history, landscape, infrastructure, and communities.

For existing Klein clients, the partnership expands available resources while maintaining the trusted relationships they have built over the years. Clients now have access to AKS’ multidisciplinary team and extensive in-house capabilities, reducing the need to coordinate with multiple consultants throughout a project lifecycle. The result is a streamlined experience that helps projects progress faster while maintaining the personalized service clients have come to expect from Klein.

For AKS clients, the partnership brings additional resources and expanded connections in the Columbia River Gorge. The Hood River location will collaborate with the existing AKS The Dalles office while drawing on expertise from throughout the company. The established relationships and combined regional knowledge will provide clients with local expertise difficult to replicate.
